Feng Jun Visits British and Canadian Counterparts for Further Cooperative Relations



From July 4 to July 9, Prof. Feng Jun, Executive Vice President of CELAP, visited CELAP’s counterparts in Britain and Canada, which achieved fruitful results. Those institutions include Civil Service Learning (CSL) of UK, King’s College London (KCL), Queen’s University of Canada, Canada School of Public Service, and University of British Columbia.

 

 

At Civil Service Learning organization, Prof. Feng introduced CELAP’s achievements in educating China’s middle and senior officials, and the Academy’s internationalization strategy to the staff members. He hopes that two sides could strengthen communication, enhance mutual understanding and expand cooperation. Ms. Sandra Lambert, Director of Operation Department of CSL, introduced UK’s civil servants’ training system. Officials from CSL’s educational resource department and evaluation department introduced their teaching resources, civil servants’ capability assessment system and human resource management methods respectively.

 

 

After visiting CSL, Prof. Feng led the delegation and visited King’s College London, which was located at the central part of London. Prof. Keith hoggart, Vice-Principal for international cooperation, warmly received the delegation. They discussed multiple topics concerning international courses, visiting scholars, etc.

 

 

On July 6, Prof. Feng Jun visited Queen’s University of Canada. Prof. John Dixon, former Vice-Principal, and Prof. Hok-Lin Leung, Director of Programs of China, met with the delegation and had a in-depth discussion on expanding mutual cooperation. Prof. Feng specially mentioned China’s current “urbanization and urban-rural integration” policy. He suggested that the two sides could strengthen researches on China’s contemporary issues to provide more actual solutions. Prof. Feng’s proposal got active response from the faculty of Queen’s University.

 

 

On July 7, the delegation visited Canada School of Public Service, which is responsible for offering training service and planning for Canadian public servants. Ms. Louise Varagnolo, Director of International Division, met with the delegation. Prof. Feng laid special emphasis on introduction of CELAP’s innovative training methods including site visits, simulation training, case studies and interactive discussion. They also had an extensive discussion on China and Canada’s civil service system, leadership education system, etc.

 

 

At University of British Columbia, Prof. Feng met with Prof. Brian Job, Deputy-Director of Asian Studies Center. UBC’s professors introduced the center’s training program for Chinese participants and expressed their gratitude for CELAP’s support. Prof. Feng introduced CELAP’s training philosophy in terms of value education and capacity building. “Value education should be integrated with capacity building. Value is invisible, yet it’s everywhere”, he said. The two sides also decided to further promote cooperation on leadership training and joint research.

 

Ms. Song Jin, Director-General of Dept. of International Exchange and program Development, and Mr. Liu Jingbei, Director-General of Dept. of Research Administration, also attended the above meetings.
